Network Wiring and Cabling Services

Network wiring and network cabling services install copper and fiber optic cables within buildings or central offices (CO). They wire new buildings and re-wire existing facilities with unshielded twisted pair (UTP), shielded twisted pair (STP), coaxial, triaxial, or fiber optic cables. UPT cables range from telephone-grade wire to high-speed network cables. They use RJ-45 connectors and are designated as category 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 cables. STP cables are bulkier than UTP cables, but are better suited for environments with radio frequency or electrical interference. Coaxial cables are relatively difficult to install, but are highly resistant to signal interference and can support greater cable lengths. There are two basic types of coaxial cables: thicknet and thinnet. Fiber optic cabling can send signals over greater distances than either twisted pair or coaxial cabling, and is relatively immune to moisture and electrical interference. Typically, network wiring and cabling services use fiber optic cables to connect buildings and provide video conferencing and other interactive services.

Network wiring and network cabling services that install UPT cables for local area networks (LAN) typically use category 3, 4, or 5 cables. Category 3 (cat 3) cables meet or exceed the specifications in the ANSI / TIA/ EIA-568-A telecommunications cabling standard for commercial buildings. Category 5 (cat 5) cables provide speeds up to 100 MHz and data transfer rates up to 100 Mbps. They can be used with either 10BaseT or 100BaseT Ethernet. Other Ethernet types include 10Base2, 10BaseFL, 100BaseTX, and 100BaseFX. Network wiring and cabling services that specialize in 1000BaseT, 100BaseLX, and 1000BaseSX installations adhere to IEEE specifications for Gigabit Ethernet over copper wire.

Network wiring and network cabling services use many different products for structured cabling systems. UTP patch cables and fiber optic patch cables can be used to connect personal computers (PC) to electrical outlets, and patch panels to network hubs. Patch panels provide switching functions for both incoming and outgoing lines. UTP horizontal cables are made from solid-conductor wires and designed for in-wall installation. Network wiring and cabling services also install cabling cabinets, equipment racks, wireways and cable troughs. Cabling cabinets, rack accessories, and enclosure cables are used to house and protect a large number of network or cable connections. Wireways and cable troughs are designed to protect electrical wires from dust, dirt, water and oil.
